Good Pizza News from a Member

One of the things I have missed over the last few years since being diagnosed as a Celiac (along with my daughter) is Papa's Pizza...I think it is the best Pizza known to mankind (I kind of grew up on it). I have been exchanging emails with Mike Nesbitt, the President of Papa's and he has informed me that starting Sept. 1st, all six restaurants will be serving gluten free offerings using Bavarian Mills crust. Bav. Mills is apparently taking a look at their processes as well to sort of 'certify' that they are offering and doing the right things for us gluten intolerant folks.

Mike seems to have researched things well and come up with a good a tasty solution for us.

I will leave Mike's note he left me below. This is exciting news for us as my daughter attends the U of OF...I think 4 of the Papa's restaurants are down there and 2 are up here!

Thanks,
Dan Sawford
Wilsonville,OR

Good Morning, Dan:

It's taken a while, but we will be offering the Bavarian Mills gluten free pizza crust starting September 1st at all of our six locations (most definitely including the Eugene/Springfield parlors where your daughter would be eating). We have also verified that most of our ingredients, sauce and cheese are gluten free. The only pizzas that will not be available would be BBQ chicken, fajita chicken, taco pizzas with chips or any pizza with BBQ sauce. The owner of Bavarian Mills has been to one of our pizza parlors and we've provided him with the guidelines we've developed for our gluten free pizza program and he will
essentially "certify" that what we are planning will in fact fulfill the needs of those suffering from gluten intolerance.

Hopefully this will all work out for our customers suffering from gluten intolerance concerns, and I'll look forward to hearing from you when you get a chance to give our new product a try---and I guarantee it will be topped just like any other Papa's pizza.

Thanks for your help and patience,

Mike Nesbitt

FREE GLUTEN FREE PIZZA!

This Saturday, September 6, from 12 - 2 PM. There will be FREE samples of gluten free pizza at Juliano's Pizza! For those of you new to the area, Juliano's has been in business here for 21 years, and is frequently voted Best Pizza in Clark County. One review some years ago said "The best pizza in Portland is in Vancouver!" And then went on to sing the praises of their offerings. Jennifer Gurzi or NUGRAIN Inc is supplying the crusts, and they are delicious. From what I understand, there are whole pizza shells available as well.

Juliano's Pizzeria
15606 SE Mill Plain Blvd
Vancouver WA.

A note from one of the members of the Vancouver WA. Branch had this to say:
"On a personal note, my cousin and his wife were visiting from Salem yesterday. They have been living with his celiac disease for more than 30 years and were kind enough to treat us to Juliano's pizzas. He and I were both amazed and delighted. He declared it the best gf pizza he'd ever had from a restaurant, and that goes for me as well! It was delicious and loaded (something for which they are rightly famous)."

So join us Saturday at Juliano's!

Interactive Map of GF Restaurants in the Portland Vancouver Metro Area

LAST UPDATED: 07.29.08

Please remember that when dining out we cannot guarentee that you will have a gluten free experience. The resturants listed above were recommended by members of our group who have had a good GF dining experience. Many of these establishments have very knowledgeable staff and work hard to keep us safe. Some of these restaurants have gluten free menus and some do not. Please always notify your waitstaff either way that you cannot eat gluten and discuss the safest options to avoid both cross contamination and direct contact with gluten. If you have a poor experience either by being glutened or disrespectful waiters please let us know. When we hear back too many times about Celiacs getting glutened we remove that restaurant from our lists.
THANKS AND HAPPY EATING!

Is it possible?! Even MORE gluten free pizza!

I just heard about this but haven't spoken to anyone who's tried it out so I can't vouch for how cross contamination free this place is. Anyone have a review of their experience?

Bellagios Pizza to offer GF option

Bellagios Pizza will be offering a gluten free pizza product by the end of July 2008. We have made a final decision on our crust and are currently reviewing nutritional data on all our toppings to make sure none of them contain gluten. Our crust is a cornmeal based crust that does not contain any soy, peanut, egg or dairy products. The pizza will be offered in one size which will be a 10 inch pizza. We are really excited about this upcoming option for those of you that have not been able to enjoy pizza due to your gluten intolerance. We encourage you to sign up for our monthly email blast which will be the quickest way to know exactly when the product is fully available.

How excited am I to note that not only do we have gluten free pizza again, but FOUR DIFFERENT restaurants are offering it?! I would also like to thank everyone who commented on the last post about Pizza, leave it to celiacs to make it their favorite topic of conversation. It wins for most comments ever on this blog. lol...

Please be sure to patronize each one in turn so we can keep our GF pizza available for a long time to come!

GF PIZZA MAKES A COME BACK?!

I received a wonderful e-mail (thanks M!) about PIZZA!

"Garlic Jims" a pizza chain is going to start carrying Gluten Free Pizza (supposedly) within the next few weeks. I saw it online as I again desperately searched for something to replace the void that Olivers left. Anyway, I drove by the one on Cornell in the Streets of Tanasbourn area and went in and asked. The cashier knew exactly what I was asking about and said that every Garlic Jims is going to be doing this in all it's stores. They are doing it right now at their Salmon Creek store. She said that it was just a matter of their supplier shipping the dough to them, but that it was going to happen.

We will be following up on this and letting you all know when GF pizza will be back in our area! Stay tuned!

PIZZA - need a new location

Hi everyone~it's Cyndy from Grassroots Baking Company.
I make the gf pizza crust for Oliver's. I am requesting your help in locating a new restaurant to meet our gf pizza needs. I have a whole freezer full of crusts just waiting to be delivered! The gf pizza had grown to be 60% of Oliver's pizza business so the profitability is there for the right venue.
Thanks a bunch!
Cyndy

You can either leave your ideas in a post below or you can e-mail me at gig_membership@hotmail.com and I'll be sure to pass the information along to Cyndy.
Thanks!
Jenn

Oliver's Closure

I'm very sorry to announce that Oliver's has been shut down by the city of Lake Oswego. We are in the process of trying to find out more information on whither or not this is a temporary closure or possibly a relocation. As we become apprized of any new developments we'll be sure to let you know.

We need our GF pizza!
