Pancake Feed at Ligonberries Market

Two pancake breakfasts will be held this summer at Ligonberries Market in Vancouver WA.

• July 17^th from 9:00AM to 11:00AM

The first Pancake breakfast will demo mixes from Bob's Red Mill, Laurel's Sweet Treats, and Kinnikinnick.

• August 21^st from 9:00AM to 11:00AM

The second Pancake breakfast will demo Gluten Free Mama's, Sylvan Border Farm and Pamela's.

Dairy free options will be available at both events. If enough requests are submitted for egg-free, they will also make options for this.

Food Fair this Saturday!

Here's a reminder that the annual Portland Metro & Willamette Valley Gluten-Free Food Fair is this coming Saturday.

It is held at All Saints Catholic Church on 39th and Glisan from 11AM-2PM. The entry is $5 a person, or $10 for a family. See the post below for detils.

Come check out the 27 vendors signed up. They range from local bakeries, to resturants, stores, and products. Yummy samples will be apleanty and many vendors will be selling their products, so plan to stock up. We will have 3 raffles, going on at noon, 1pm and 1:45pm!


Just a note: GIG Portland is still meeting May 8th at Legacy Emanuel Hospital at our normal time of 10 to noon. Our speaker will be Wendy Cohan, RN.

Grocery Store on the Far East Side

It's always so nice to hear what our members have to say about places they've discovered that will cater to the gluten free diet...

I thought I'd let you know about a store I stumbled across that you might want to include in your resources for the GIG group. It's close to the old building where twelve mile corner used to be on 223rd & Stark. It's on 223rd just South of Stark. It's a tiny store that carries organic products as well as fresh organic vegetables. When I was in there, I asked him if he had any Gluten Free products and he showed me the Gluten Free section. It had a few products (less than 10). That isn't a lot but what I did find is that he was willing to order ANYTHING for me that was possible to order online. I of course could order the same things online for the most part that he can... but it was the willingness and enthusiasm that I thought was noteworthy and wanted to pass that information on for the people who live out on the Eastside. I am in Troutdale and the only thing I have out here
is Fred Meyer nutrition section which is pretty good but of course I'm always interested in access to more choices since I don't get out to the other places like Whole Foods, New Seasons Market, etc... very often.

Sometimes shopping for GF food can be a pain especially when starting out on the diet. I found that Whole Foods Market has a published list of the Gluten Free Foods that they carry in their stores. GF/DF Cookie Dough Ice Cream!

Just in time for summer New Seasons has started carrying Gluten Free / Dairy Free Cookie Dough Ice Cream! I tried it myself and I'll have to say it was mighty tasty.

GLUTEN FREE TASTE FAIR - AUG 18TH

WHOLE FOODS (Bridgeport Location) will be holding a Gluten Free Taste Fair on Saturday, August 18th from 1-5pm. FREE.

It will be located around the Seasmoke café area at the back of the store. This area has a fully functioning kitchen where they'll be preparing gf goodies all afternoon. They will also have samples surrounding the entire area and will be sampling sorghum beer as well.

Gluten Free Beer Tasting! - AUGUST 3rd

Perusing the New Seasons flyer that came in the paper today, I saw that there will be a "Gluten-Free Beer Challenge" tasting at the Concordia (NE PDX) store on 8/3 from 4-7 p.m.

To Register for a Class
Please contatct Customer Service at (503) 639-6500, extension 0 and ask to register for a class in Salud! You will need a credit card number to confirm your registration. Or you can drop off a check made payable to "Whole Foods Market Bridgeport" to reserve. Our classroom only seats 18 students, so we appreciate your pre-payment.

Sold Out Classes
To be added to the waiting list for a sold out class, call (503) 639-6500 extension 0 and specify the class, date and number of students to be added to the waiting list.

Cancellations
To cancel a class, please contact Customer Service at (503) 639-6500, extension. Seven days notice is appreciated, but a full refund will be credited if you cancel within 48 hours prior to the day of the class. Any cancellations within 24 hours of the class or faxed into the store will not be honored. If a class has an insufficient number of participants, it will be cancelled 24 hours prior to the start of the class. Our Whole Foods Market Chef will contact you by phone regarding the cancellation. You will receive a full credit or refund for the class.

If you have any other questions regarding a class, the use of the Salud! classroom for a private function or to communicate directly with the Salud! Chef/Coordinator. All classes are demonstration style unless noted "hands-on". Demonstration classes are limited to 18 registered students.
