FOOD FAIRE - SATURDAY APRIL 25th 2009

It is estimated that, for each person diagnosed with gluten intolerance, celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis, 90 people are undiagnosed and suffering; the average time it takes to diagnose CD from the onset of symptoms is 11 years. However, most physicians still believe that this is a rare disorder. Help GIG support those affected by these diseases with support, education and resources.

The proceeds from our fourth annual food fair will go to fund this worthy cause. Due to a lack of volunteers the walk fund raising portion of this event will be canceled this year. Please if you can find the time, consider joining your efforts with ours in this worthy organization.

I'm so disappointed that I'm just finding out about this 3 days before the event. I have a few people that would have helped out. Was the volunteer info posted somewhere else?

I've put a post on my blog about the event. Does this event benefit GIG?

It's just the walk portion that was canceled. The food faire is still on! Hope to see you there. (BTW we hold this annually, we'll try to do a better job of getting our volunteer needs out there better next year so we can resume the walk.)

We are still looking to fill a few positions in the following areas: publicity and restaurant reviewers. Hope you can still help us out! Please contact either Mary (our Branch Manager) or myself. Thanks!

Dave - Thanks for helping us spread the word!

The event helps fund the work our GIG Branch does all year long. It allows us to reach out to doctors and dietitians (amongst others) with information about CD and host other social events through the support group.

I am very disappointed that the walk has been cancelled and that this was not advertised earlier and better. I have been watching for posts on it for several months and only found anything lat week and did not know the walk had been cancelled. My husband and I look forward to the whole event each year and we would have offered to help with the walk if more volunteers were needed. maybe you can have a list for people to sign up to assist in various areas next year and send out e-mail communications so next year can be better planned

Anonymous: We've had no one to fill our publicity position for over a year now. If you'd like to step up we'd love to have you! We desperately need help in this area.

In the meantime I'll be sure to pass your suggestion along to the people who work very hard to put on this event. Thanks! =)

Suggestion: Put help wanted on this web site and other local GIG web sites requesting a volunteer for the publicity position or any other positions that you need volunteers for next year so more people know that there is a need, sooner. I check this site about once a month and would have stepped in and helped if I had known. Posting a description of the duties of any positon would be helpful to get volunteers to step up. We appreciate everyone's hard work and enjoy all the yummy food- we have found some of our favorite eating places and several new ones to try each year. THANK YOU!
