Toward a Healthy Community - Oct. 20th

The Portland Metro GIG group will be hosting a table at the Parkrose United Methodist Church's second annual Community Health Faire to take place Saturday, October 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. All in the community are invited to come and get information about various health conditions and organizations and sample healthy snacks, messages, and exercise moves.

Coordinators are still lining up participants. Participating organizations will include the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, the American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter, and SNOW-CAP. Also, the Lions' Club will bring their mobile screening unit and perform hearing and vision screenings and glucose and blood pressure checks. Exercise teachers and students will demonstrate Tai Chi and arthritis exercises.

"So many people in the community need help with health care," explains coordinator Carolyn Fairfield. "This is an area where the church can really help."

Children's activities will also be available at the Health Faire, including crafts, healthy snacks, and face painting and balloons twisting by Stevie Weevie the Clown.

Openings are still available for organizations and businesses that would like to host an information table or provide a class or demonstration. For more information, please contact the coordinator Carolyn Fairfield at (503) 253-3735 or the church office at (503) 253-7567
